Our Teachers
Laura Smallwood
is certified to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction both online and in person through through East Coast Mindfulness. In addition to teaching the 8-week MBSR course, she also teaches introductory mindfulness and mindfulness-based courses adapted to the needs of specific groups. Her interests include mindfulness as a method for building stress resilience in the workplace, mindful communication as a strategy for reducing workplace stress, and the role that training in kindness and compassion can play in protecting veterinary and health care workers from burnout. As a yoga teacher and lifelong dancer, she is also interested in the role that movement practices can play in cultivating mindfulness, emotional resilience, and well-being. In addition to teaching for Atlanta Mindfulness, Laura also teaches online MBSR for East Coast Mindfulness .
Stephanie Swann
is certified as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher through the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine, Center for Mindfulness. She teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction as well as advanced meditation courses. As a consultant, Dr. Swann trains mental health professionals in the practice of mindfulness-based psychotherapy. She has over 20 years’ experience teaching in universities as well as the community. Currently Dr. Swann holds an adjunct faculty appointment with the Georgia State University School of Social Work. She attends mindfulness meditation retreats regularly and has a daily meditation practice.

Nicole Carlson
has been a mindfulness practitioner in the Insight Meditation tradition since 2008. Nicole teaches others about the basics of mindfulness through her work as a Community Resilience Method teacher with theTrauma Resource Institute. She is also a Certified Nurse-Midwife who practices at Atlanta Birth Center, and a researcher at Emory University. Nicole is currently training to become a certified Mindfulness-Based Childbirth Preparation teacher through the Mindful Birthing and Parenting Foundation.
