Catherine Kerr, PhD, Brown University Professor, delivers a TedX talk on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and the brain. She discusses how simple embodied mindfulness can reset cognitive and emotional baselines. Using mindfulness allows us to reduce emotional reactivity and lessen the degree to which we merge with our thoughts. For many of us this is golden as we begin to be released from the bondage of critical self-talk and mood instability.

Doctor's Orders: 20 minutes of meditation twice a day

Physicians ranging from cardiologists to internists to neurologists are now prescribing meditation for treatment of chronic pain, high blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome, and other difficult-to-treat conditions. The most widely researched form of meditation is mindfulness meditation in the form of MBSR - taught by the Atlanta Mindfulness Institute, Atlanta, Georgia.
